Why Do Some People Get So Mad?

The next source of anger we are going to look at today stems from the need to appear competent and in control. When will this anger come out? It will come out when someone is criticized for mistakes or made to look foolish. This takes away the appearance that they are competent and in control.
The person who is a Melancholy in the control area will have this anger. It’s a lashing out kind of anger for being criticized or made to look foolish which takes away the appearance they are competent and in control. Although, it is more likely to see this anger outwardly, the other areas in your temperament or your upbringing and environment may have shaped you to keeping the anger inward. In either case, it is still necessary to process the anger you have. Anger that is spewed out or that erupts like a volcano is not pleasing to God but neither is it good for your soul to let the anger remain inside and fester. It will only lead to resentment and bitterness and that anger will eventually come out in far worse ways which include violence.
A Melancholy in the control area of the temperament will need to understand his competence should not be based on what he does but only on him doing the will of God. If he is striving to do everything according to God’s will, he will also begin to trust that if what he does fail, that God has a plan and purpose for it and is wanting to teach him something in it. In Christian counseling, we will counsel A Melancholy in the control area to be actively in God’s Word so he can learn to discern God’s will but also so he can learn more of God and begin to foster more and more trust in God. When the Melancholy in control submits to the truth that God is in control than whatever they do whether it fails or not, will be used by God for his good purposes. The Christian counseling process has a lot to do with your viewpoint. These views of yourself, others, the world and God need to be based on God’s truth. Change how you think and your behavior will follow.
We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God. 2 Corinthians 3: 4-5
