Shouldn’t There Be Treasure in a Treasure Chest?

In our inner being reside the inner temple where we meet with the Holy of Holies, Spirit to spirit. The inner temple walls of Solomon’s Temple were 3-stories high and filled with rooms with windows that only faced outward. These rooms were the treasury rooms where all the articles of worship and scrolls of the law were kept. In our inner temple, we have these same treasury rooms that we call our subconscious. This inner temple is where our heart lies; it is the blending place of our soul and spirit.
The treasury rooms were designed to hold the treasure of God and yet so many grow up in this fallen world and instead of treasures of God, their rooms are filled with the garbage of lies. Their character has been influenced and corrupted by the world and yet God doesn’t want any of us to live with all that garbage in our souls. Jesus came to heal and save us. His truth will set the captive free, free from living with all this garbage. His truth is fighting for us. Every time we truly listen to his truth through His Word, in church and in fellowship with others, he is actively working at helping you take the garbage out of your treasury rooms and put in the treasure it was meant to have; God’s love and truth.
Our hearts are changed by God’s love. God is love and we love because God first loved us. The treasury windows were meant for the light of God’s glory to shine from within us, outward. But for some, those rooms are filled with the garbage and are blocking the windows. 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
John J. Wilkins says in his book, In His Image-Reflecting Christ in Everyday Life, “Our heart is changed in the first place by letting God’s love enter our lives. We are awed and profoundly humbled as we meditate on the truth that God entered history to die a brutal death in our place. How can we not love and trust and surrender all to a God who loves like this—with such vulnerability, so giving of Himself?”
God’s act of love tells us how much he values us. When we surrender our heart to God, it opens our heart to the treasure of His love. Jesus says what we value is our treasure and our heart will be forever connected to what we value. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:19
When we allow ourselves with our mind, will and emotions to receive God’s love, that treasure of truth will start pushing out the lies and will open the windows for God’s light to shine out from you. This garbage-dumping and truth-filling process is not instantaneous but is the continual work of sanctification the Holy Spirit is helping you with.
As a Christian counselor, my heart hurts for those who are stuck in their walk with the Lord because they are listening to the lies. My prayer is the Lord will direct them to whatever help they need to get moving forward and living with the treasure rooms being filled up with God’s love and truth.
